Completion is the beginning of establishment

New sod and plants need active observation while roots develop and irrigation is tuned. The first year is also when settlement, drainage behavior, seasonal exposure and maintenance access become clearer.

At handoff

  • Confirm irrigation zones and controller access.
  • Record the initial establishment schedule and who is responsible for adjustments.
  • Review plant, sod and material care requirements.
  • Identify shutoffs, sleeves, drains, lighting controls and service access.
  • Photograph the completed landscape and visible utility markers.

First weeks

Inspect moisture in the soil rather than judging only by surface appearance. Watch for runoff, standing water, overspray, wilting, washed mulch and settlement. Limit traffic on new sod until it has rooted sufficiently.

Transitioning irrigation

Establishment watering should be reduced and adjusted as roots develop, weather changes and plants move into dormancy or active growth. Turf, shrubs and specialty areas should not remain on one generic schedule.

Seasonal care

  • Adjust irrigation for rainfall, temperature and dormancy.
  • Maintain mulch without burying trunks or creating deep buildup.
  • Keep drain inlets and discharge paths clear.
  • Prune for plant health and intended form—not constant shearing by default.
  • Monitor lawn height, blade sharpness, compaction and thatch.
  • Inspect lighting aim and exposed connections after plant growth or service work.

When to call Artistix or a specialist

Contact the appropriate team when there is persistent standing water, erosion, unexplained plant decline, repeated irrigation loss, settlement at a hardscape edge, lighting faults or material changes that do not match the expected care guidance.

Service continuity

Artistix can introduce the homeowner to the appropriate maintenance partners and preserve a clear handoff record. Ongoing service responsibilities and warranties should be stated specifically rather than implied.

Keep one establishment record

Record the starting irrigation program, who can adjust it and the conditions being observed. Photograph recurring wet spots, runoff or plant decline before changing several settings at once. A clear record helps distinguish a coverage problem from weather, soil moisture or the normal transition toward an established landscape.
