Water care protects more than water clarity
Water chemistry affects swimmer comfort, sanitation, the interior finish, metal components, heaters, salt equipment and other surfaces. Clear water is not, by itself, proof that the water is correctly balanced.
Startup is finish-specific
New plaster, pebble and other cementitious finishes require a controlled startup. Brushing, filtration, chemical additions, heater use and salt-system activation should follow the finish applicator’s instructions and the selected startup method.
There is no single startup schedule for every finish. Follow the project-specific startup plan provided for the installed interior.
The ongoing water program
Track and manage the complete water balance using the service professional’s testing method and the applicable product guidance. At minimum, the operating plan should address sanitizer, pH, total alkalinity, calcium hardness, stabilizer where applicable, salt where used, temperature and water balance.
Use the exact targets in the project-specific care record and current guidance for the installed finish and equipment.
Saltwater still uses chlorine
A salt chlorination system converts chloride in the water into chlorine for sanitation. It does not create a chlorine-free pool. Salt level, cell condition, water balance, flow and operating time all influence performance.
What homeowners should watch
- Sudden water-level change.
- Cloudiness, algae or persistent staining.
- Scaling or deposits at the waterline, salt cell or features.
- Unusual finish color change or roughness.
- Strong odor or discomfort.
- Chemistry that repeatedly moves outside the provider’s operating range.
Artistix’s perspective
Use the project-specific startup record, service log and current manufacturer instructions for exact values and operating requirements.
Care guidance should follow the installed finish and equipment, the project-specific startup record and current professional water-testing practices.
